Ippolit Fedorovich Bogdanovich

He was born in a poor noble family and was educated at home. In 1754 he was appointed a junker of the Justiz-Collegium in Moscow and at the same time began to study at the mathematical school of the Senate Office. He was greatly influenced by the works of Lomonosov. He published works, mostly humorous in nature, both original and translated from French in the magazine "Useful Amusement" (“Poleznoe uveselenie”) (1760-1762). Later he translated Voltaire – including his "Poem on the Destruction of Lisbon" (“Poema na razrushenie Lissabona”) (1801, 1802, 1809). He also made a translation of vol. 1 of the collection of fairy tales "A Thousand and One Nights" (“Tysiacha i odna noch”) (1763), arranged by Antoine Galland.
